Sebastian sat up, gasping for air as his heart hammered in his chest.  He wasn’t sure when the last time he got a full night sleep that didn’t involve waking up from nightmares, but it was starting to get old.  Each time it was about his time in the war when his touch seemed to do more harm than help, or a different time that felt like the normal world never existed for him.

He waited a few minutes for his mind and body to calm down before getting out of bed and wandering to the small kitchen area of his apartment.  Despite living there for a while, the place held no warmth for him, no love.  The only place he ever felt comfortable at was the Fire Shot Auto, and he only went in there once for less than thirty minutes.

Dismissing that thought almost immediately, Sebastian got a glass of water and sipped it slowly, trying to keep himself from falling back into dark thoughts or his dream.  He was staring at the tiled wall by the sink with a blank expression when a noise outside of his apartment brought him back to reality.  Sebastian exchanged the glass for a knife and walked over to the door, peering out the small peep hole and frowning at what he saw.

He jerked the door opened and stared at the man in front of it who looked just as surprised as Sebastian felt.  The apartment was on ground level and faced outward to the street, so there was a lot of foot traffic in the area and the fact that the man stopped there could have been coincidence.

The taller man hid his hands behind his back and green eyes narrowed but Sebastian didn’t say anything about that.  Instead, Sebastian said, “Ironhide, right?  Why are you in front of my door?”

“Early morning jog.”

“At two thirty in the morning?”

“Working out is a good way to get yourself tired enough to sleep and I wanted to get out for a while.  I’m sorry that I disturbed you.”

Sebastian looked over the man again, mentally shrugging.  He did have enough sweat on him to give his story credit.  “You can come in for a while if you want.”

“Nah.  I need to start heading back anyway.  Goodnight Ratchet.”

The former medic didn’t respond as the other man began his jog back, though as the door to his apartment clicked shut, he whispered a soft, “Goodnight, Ironhide.

oOo

Sebastian wasn’t really surprised when Ironhide came by his apartment again, though it was at a more reasonable hour.  Each time Sebastian would invite the man in, who would gently turn down the invitation the first few times.  By now, he would come in for a few minutes and they would talk.  Ironhide wouldn’t come by every day, but the nights after he did come by, Sebastian noticed a drastic change in his nightmares.  They were less frequent, less intense.

Maybe he should take a chance…

oOo

Sebastian sat on the couch in his living room, clutching the cloth of his shirt over his chest and trying to breathe without pain ripping through his lungs.  Something was wrong; he knew it ever since he tried to go to sleep earlier.  There was an odd itch in his back that wouldn’t go away, like someone was watching his every move.

After a while, the blond stood up and pulled on his jacket and shoes, making sure that he had his wallet and keys before shutting and locking the door behind him.  He didn’t live in the nicest of neighborhoods, but he knew how to protect himself.

Sebastian’s walk didn’t take him far, just to a near by park where small children would play in the day time when there wasn’t so much worry of danger, though it was now empty with the darkness.  He sat down on a low swing, pushing his feet against the ground and swinging back and forth.

Ironhide kept coming back to his mind.  The man was strange, Sebastian will give him that, but there was also a strange feeling he would give off, like he was trying to find something or someone, but wasn’t sure where to start his search.  The one thing that his mind wouldn’t let go was the fact that the other man hasn’t come by for the pas week or so.

“I don’t know why I even try,” he muttered, kicking a random stone.

A high pitched noise suddenly echoed around him and Sebastian cringed, falling to his knees with his hands covering his ears.  He didn’t know what was happening, but when he looked up, a gun fight from a sci-fi movie was taking place around him.

On one side were these odd, humanoid looking creatures that moved to strangely to be truly human and the other side was…

“Ironhide?”

Bright brown eyes flashed to him and the gun the man was holding was aimed in his direction.  Sebastian cringed back, but looked back up when nothing happened.  He sat frozen on the ground, watching the mechanic move closer with precise steps and eventually standing over Sebastian, the strange gun in his hand sending off echoing shots as it took down one creature after another.

After a while, the gun fight stopped and Ironhide stood in the middle of the playground, breathing hard, as wings that seemed to be made of light slowly dissolved from sight.  “Are you all right?” Ironhide asked.

“What’s going on?”

“Those things were after you.”  He glanced back at Sebastian, a gun no longer in his hands.  “We’ve been holding them off, but they’ve been getting closer.”

“Why are they after me?”

Ironhide’s answer was whispered in a soft voice.  “Because you’re one of us.”

“What?”

Another high pitched screech echoed around them and Ironhide raised his hand, the gun suddenly back, and was only able to get off a few shots before one hit him in the back of the shoulder, another glancing off of his ribs.  He fell to the ground, eyes wide with pain, and Sebastian scrambled to catch him.

He wasn’t sure what was happening.  One moment he was surround, being shot at by the strange alien things, and the next, two others were standing around him, quickly taking out the enemy.

When they were once again gone, a dark skinned man knelt by him, touching the places on Ironhide that were hit.  “He’s hit bad, Prime.  I don’t think we can move him safely.”

“Safely?” Sebastion asked, eyes wide as he looked at the wounded area.  Slender fingers reached down, gently brushing against the damaged skin and immediately the blond could feel energy slowly draining out of him.  A small voice in the back of his mind whispered that this was wrong, that he would only hurt the man with his power, but Sebastian’s heart refused to listen, not wanting to give in without try.

That was his last thought before he passed out.

oOo

When he opened his eyes next, he wasn’t sure where he was, though he did recognize the blond boy sitting by his bed.

“Ironhide..?”

Bright blue eyes opened and looked at him, giving him a him.  “Hey.  ‘Hide’s fine, thanks to you.”

“I didn’t kill him?”  Sebastian winced when he heard the disbelief in his own voice.

“No.  He’s getting stronger and he’ll be glad you’ve finally woken up.”  Alex Bumblebee held out his hand.  “Welcome to this crazy group, Ratchet.”
This has been wandering around my brain forever. I'm not sure that I like how it came out, but I doubt I can work on it to a betterness (is confused by own words).

Another note: Don't take this strictly as Sleepy-sama's version. The way I write how everyone meets/gets together is not his views of how it happened. Gomen, minna.

Written for the :iconhidexratchet:, *sleepyoldvamp-sama's character designs. Please enjoy.

Written with "Blind as a Bat" by Meatloaf playing on a loop. Seriously, I think this song was made for Sebastian and Gabriel...
