It hurts.

You were repaired in time.  I send my thanks to whatever is watching over us that the medic came in time, removing the defective part and replacing it with a new one.

No one can see the relief that floods me as I watch you interact with the others.  You’re brighter now, your colors are clear…  You literally shine with vitality.  You brighten the room when you’re in it.  You pick up things quicker too.  The things you struggled to do previously now come to you with such ease that others are envious.

And it hurts.  Because of the repairs you went under, some pieces are missing.  You pick up on tasks much quicker only because of the pieces that are lost.  The majority of your memories are still there, love, but something essential, something that made you unique, is gone.

The others understand this.  They can see how mentioning something you knew intimately about now leaves you floundering to answer and they just joke and say it’ll come back to you in time.  And yes, some of those things can come back.

But some will never come back.

You make that sound again.  That same sound that could have easily been a whimper of pain.  It’s something that stuck with you after your repairs, that same part whimper, part cry, that always brings me to you as fast as possible.  I’ll be at your side, trying to tell myself that you’re no longer hurt, but that doesn’t stop me.

I’ll be at your side, through your struggles and triumphs, and smile with each success.

I’ll be at your side.

I promise.
Okay, I lied.

Slight continuation of Don't Leave. Was completely unplanned and came to me while driving.

Enjoy?
